Arriving at the Star Inn, Dyliffe

The Star Inn

Star of wonder. Yes, this has been run by the same familiy for the past 20 years or so and it is truly an achievement to have made a living out here on the desolate edges of Plynlimon. Nothing remains of what was once a thriving mining community except a couple of houses, the inn, and the derelict signs of past mining. But the inn has flourished offering walkers, bikers, hunters and horse riders fine food and drink in a laid back atmosphere.

FreeRein riders following the Trans Cambrian North Trail enjoy their stays here, but are always mindful that the following day, through the wilds of Plynlimom, is a long one either picking the way through the bogs of the Hengwm Valley or following the alternative route down the steep and rocky Glendwrs Way.

When I first stayed here back in 1973 there was no fenced land and the horses stayed tied up outside the pub door for the night. However, there are now fenced fields adjoining the inn, together with some stables, which were originally part of a plan to offer trekking from here.
