Fun on and off horseback

The Radnor Inns Trail is a three day trail ride staying overnight at two different country inns, the Harp Inn at old Radnor and either the Red lion or the Fforest Inn at Llanfihangel-nant-Melan. This trail ride starts from Pendre Barns, Painscastle although as with all of our trails you still come to freerein HQ first to pack saddle bags, go through maps and routes and of course collect your fit and friendly GG’s. This trail is three medium to long days in the saddle.

For freerein+ trail riders only . . .

Please note that this trail ride is only offered to those with previous experience of one of more self-guided trail rides with freerein. If you are contemplating your first self guided trail with us you can view a selection of suitable trails by following this link: horse riding holidays.

If some members of your group have done previous self-guided trails and others haven’t, bookings on freerein+ trails such as this one should be suitable for you and are most welcome. If you are unsure please do not hesitate to contact us for a chat.

Explore Offas Dyke & Hergest Ridge . . .

The trail ride to the Harp at Old Radnor takes you past the Royal Oak in Gladestry. It is a potential late lunch stop, but only for those who move swiftly and trot out the miles. Otherwise take lunches and tie up somewhere along Offas Dyke after Newchurch or for an early nibble, Newchurch Hill by the old railway carriage. Lots of good canter opportunities along Offas Dyke and Hergest Ridge.

One of the many highlights of this route is the part of Offas Dyke which takes you along the Hergest Ridge of Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells before the exhilarating steep track which takes you to the Harp at Old Radnor.

Stay over at two country inns . . .

The Harp Inn is a regular stop for freereiners. It offers an interesting and varied menu prepared by their professional chef. The rooms have been extensively renovated. The horses stay a 5 minute walk down the road with a friendly local farmer.

The following day to the always popular Red Lion or the Forest Inn offers a variety of possibilities. Possibly a leisurely start with a short ride along the old green lanes leading to New Radnor and the Radnor Arms for lunch, then out to Water Break Its Neck before heading for the Red Lion or Forest Inn.

Return trail through perfect horse country . . .

To end the trail return to Pendre Barns exploring Glascwm Hill - then maybe a sojourn in the Roast Ox to end the trail.

The Radnor inns trail is a popular three day trail with medium to long days in the saddle and staying overnight at two country inns.

We all look forward to welcoming you on the Radnor Inns Trail . . .
