The Teme & Ithon Trail - 5 Days
you can take a horse to water
View from the Cowlod
To New Radnor
The ride to the Bache from Pendre Barns could take you across the moors to either the Forest Inn or Red Lion for lunch (check opening times with FreeRein) - but this would mean an early start. Say 10a.m. at the lastest. Otherwise bring packed lunches and ride via Glascwm Hill and Black Yat to New Radnor. You would then have the choice of trotting up the lane to the Bache or taking the track which climbs up through the woods before comming down into the Bache.
Beacon Hill
The day from Bache to Belmont Cottage in the Teme Valley ends with fine open hill and a birds eye view of the Terme Valley as you descend steeply from the Gwernygrufryg Ridge. It is a day for those who would enjoy finding their way along quaint old byeways and green lanes - ideal practise for riders who may be thinking ahead to embarking on a Trans Cambrian Trail.
From the Teme Valley to the New Inn you will be riding across one of my favourite stretches of hill. Just climb steeply back up onto the Gwyrnygufron Ridge and follow the clear tracks past the remains of Beacon Lodge and across the wild expanse of Beacon Hill to end the day on the banks of the Ithon at Llanbadarn Ffynydd.
Penybont
And now a choice of routes to the Severn Arms. Either follow the straightforward route down Glendwrs Way or go via the Happy Union Inn at Abbey Cwmhir. If you have time do take a look at the remains of the once magnificent Abbey with the carp ponds still intact. Lots of interesting route finding then to reach Severn Arms atPenybont.
Return to Pendre Barns
The return to Pendre Barns, Painscastle is a long day. Your trail will follow the high level route along the the western edge of the Radnor Forest with panoramic views back across the waves of hills over which you have ridden during the last 2 days. There may now be the option to stop at the Forest Inn or the Red Lion for lunch - but do check with mission control (FreeRein HQ) as their opening days and times depend on the time of year. And then its just a three hour scamper across the heather back to Pendre Barns, Painscastle
