The Teme & Ithon Trail - 5 Days
One of our fit and friendly GG's
The Teme & Ithon Trail is a five day trail ride staying overnight at one inn, two guest houses and one hotel. It heads all the way up to the Teme Valley on the Shropshire border and then over to the Ithon Valley in remote Mid Wales. It is five lengthy days in the saddle of 16-18 miles per day.
During this trail, riders are able to explore Beacon Hill a fine piece of hill with lots of tracks, great canters and panoramic views. It is a remote and seldom visited part of the Radnor Hills trail network and is highly rated by staff and customers.

Please note that this trail ride is only offered to those with previous experience of one of more self-guided trail rides with freerein. If you are contemplating your first self guided trail with us you can view a selection of suitable trails by following this link: horse riding holidays.

Heading north . . .
The ride to New or Old Radnor from Pendre Barns could take you across the moors to the Royal Oak for lunch - but this would mean moving swiftly with plenty of trots. Otherwise bring packed lunches and ride via Glascwm Hill and Black Yat to New Radnor. Here you stay the night at either the Harp Inn or the Radnor Arms.
To the Teme Valley . . .
An interesting and varied day first over Bache Hill and then the Radnor Fforest. The route then takes you via Monaughty and onto parts of Glyndwrs way eventually leading to Knucklas and your nights stop at Belmont Cottages, a pretty little B&B in the village. Your horses stay the night a 10 minute walk away at a local farm.

A fantastic day follows covering the length of Beacon Hill through Llanbadarn Ffynydd and on to part of our Trans Cambrian North route. You come eventually to Glan Ithon Lodge your overnight stop in the Ithon Valley. One of my personal favorite days on trail anywhere.
From the Ithon Valley you head south following a beautiful trail along Glyndwrs Way. Here you have the option to do a detour to Abbeycwmhir and the Happy Union Inn whose sign features a rotund gentleman riding a goat and sipping a mug of ale. It doesn’t serve food or normally open during the day. However if you bang on the door the friendly landlady may open up for some liquid refreshment - this does make a long day especially if you enjoy more than a couple.
From here on to Penybont and the Severn Arms Hotel, your final nights rest. The return to Painscastle along the high and exposed western edge of the Radnor Forest (panoramic views across Wales) offers the option to stop at the Fforest Inn or the Red Lion for lunch before the journey back across the rolling hills to Painscastle.
The Teme Valley Trail is an exciting five day trail ride with long days in the saddle and interesting overnight stops.
We all look forward to welcoming you on the Teme & Ithon Trail Ride . . .
