maps and routes at FreeRein HQ

FreeRein provides all maps and route descriptions for your trail. These are waterproof and carried in map cases designed for use on horseback. The following is for riders, who like ourselves, find that pouring over maps acts as a sort of appetiser for trails to come.

Radnor Hills

Navigator Map 3 CD 1:50 000 covers the whole of Mid Wales out to the coast - and a lot more. Ordnance Survey Landranger1:50,000 Sheets 148 147 160 and/or Explorer1:25,000 Sheets 201, 200, 188 cover the whole area of trails returning to FreeRein HQ or Pendre Barns. For the Trans Cambrian Trails to the coast add Landranger Sheets 136 and 135. FreeRein HQ is MR SO20930 43040 & Pendre Barns is MR SO 16605 46390.

The Trans Cambrian Trails both finish at Ynyslas MR SN 60935 94230 on the Dovey Estuary, Cardigan Bay.NB Bridleways are all marked because they are Rights of Way but many miles of FreeRein Trails follow OCRs (Old Council Roads - which are unsurfaced & rarely marked) and occasionally Enclosure Award Carriageways. Some follow private tracks across land by private arrangement. These are often not on OS Maps.

The latest maps, (incl. Navigator Map 3 CD) show some of the OCRs on the 1:50,000 as large red dots (NOT diamonds) & on 1:25000 by large green dots (NOT diamonds).
