The Dwy Tafarnau Trail - 3 Days

Swing into the saddle . . .

The Dwy Tafarnau Trail (means two inns in Welsh) starts with the old lanes then onto the open hills of the Begwns with wide easy to follow tracks through the bracken. Have a canter or two here then pause to take in the panoramic views back to the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains.

You travel the full length of the Begwns before fording the Bachhowey Brook and crossing the valley onto Llanbedr Hill. From here there is a choice of longer or shorter routes over the rolling hills to the Roast Ox Inn, Painscastle where you and your horses rest for the night.

The second day of this horse riding holiday brings an excellent choice of trails depending on the length of day you wish to ride.

Travel over Red Hill, Glascwm Hill and Black Yat all with stunning vistas and good canter tracks through the bracken and heather. Eventually your chosen trail drops down to the remote hamlet of Llanfihangel Nant Melan where you stay at the Red Lion or the Fforest Inn.

Or from the Roast Ox take the tracks leading north east through the heather across Newchurch and Colva Hills with a lunch stop at the Royal Oak Inn before continuing over the wild and remote Caety Traelow and on to Llanfihangel and your nights rest.

Ride through perfect horse country . . .

Back to FreeRein via Glascwm, Maun Pools, Llanbedr and the Begwns or go back across to Pendre Barns, Painscastle and call to be collected.

Pack saddle bags then prepare your horses.

Go through your individual route pack & depart HQ.

Out on trail all day.

Arrive at Painscastle, untack, feed & turn your horses out in the field.

Relax for the evening at the Roast Ox.

Second Day . .

Feed, groom and tack up your horse.

Out on trail all day with an excellent choice of routes to the Fforest Inn or Red Lion.

Relax for the evening at the Inn.

Third Day . .

Feed, groom and tack up your horse.

Out on trail all day.

Option to finish early at Painscastle where we can pick you and your horses up or;

Return all the way to FreeRein HQ around 5pm for tea and homemade cake.
