Frazer on the Begwns

The Radnor Farms - 3 days

The Radnor Hills

This is a fine tour of the Radnor Hills staying at two working hill farms - Great House and the Bache (pronounced Bage) which is on the eastern edge of the Radnor Forest. The outward route passes through Painscastle - with option to lunch at Roast Ox - and continues along an old droving route across Newchurch Hill offering splendid firm flat tracks for long canters, to Great House Farm.

On day two there is a choice of routes along old green lanes or across the heather moorlands before reaching New Radnor and good tying up outside the Radnorshire Arms. From here its a trot up the lanes to the Bache or go via the forestry paths leading into the Radnor Forest.

The Bache

The Bache has a small water bottling plant and just down the lane Ralph makes Old Badland Cider and Perry. Beware its potent and moorish stuff.

Return

Most riders doing this trail would finish in Painscastle but with the option to continue back across the Begwns to FreeRein HQ.
