The Radnor Hamlets Trail - 4 Days

A fine and varied four days in the hills leaving FreeRein along the green lanes and hill tracks that are the start of the Begwns Trails, with optional lunch stop at the Roast Ox in Painscastle. At the end of the first day you and your horses will stay at either Bryngwyn or Great House for the night.

Water break its Neck

Next day it may be a good idea to make an early start & ride to New Radnor for lunch at the Radnorshire Arms. Alternatively take a packed lunch and tie up under the huge old pine trees at Water Break Its Neck. Either way your route now climbs steeply up onto the top of the Radnor Forest. Your horse will probably expect to be lead but the walk will be rewarded with some spectacular views across Wales which will accompany you to your left until you descend steeply to the Pales Meeting House and Penybont Common. The Severn Arms Hotel, famous in days gone by for its fishing and hospitality, is now but 20 minutes ride across the common.

Return

The third day in the saddle takes you to the Hundred House Inn at Hundred House from where there is a choice of different routes leading either back to FreeRein via the Edw Valley or via Maun Pools back to Pendre Barns in Painscastle from where you can choose to return to FreeRein across the Begwns or be returned to HQ by equibus.
