Checking the weather beforehand is vital to prepare for trail.
Being in the great outdoors lends itself to excessive sun or rain exposure
Pick Your Clothes Wisely
You might think wearing sleeveless tops will keep you cool, but that is not correct when it comes to horse riding! While riding out in the sun, you will need to cover your skin as much as possible. Wearing breathable long sleeved tops will protect your skin from sunburn and flies. Same with your riding leggings, socks, and gloves. Also, avoid dark clothes. Bright colors reflect the sunlight and don’t absorb the heat.
And don’t forget your waterproofs!
Hydration
Staying hydrated is the most important thing you should remember. In any weather it’s good to stay hydrated, but definitely in hot weather as your body will get dehydrated very quickly. Carry a water bottle everywhere you go.
Use That Sunscreen
Don’t forget to get a bottle of sunscreen. Use it every time your skin is going to be exposed to sunlight directly. Remember that getting serious sunburns will mean that you won’t be able to ride in the sunlight for a while!
Flies and Other Insects
One of the other joys (not) of being out in the elements with wet or hot weather is the insect life that hangs out there, too. If the flies are a concern, armour up with fly spray because don’t forget that your horse will be out in the same elements as you!
