Our second top tip when heading out onto the hills…

Choosing the right tack and equipment for your horse

The priority when heading out on trail is choosing the right tack!

When it comes to tack, the general rule is the simpler the better.
The important bit of equipment that comes in handy when you hit the trails is the trusty saddle bag.
This is a game changer when heading out on longer rides – you can comfortably carry lunch/snacks, water, sunscreen/lip balm, and many other items that come in handy when on a long ride!
The right bridle, saddle, saddle pad, stirrups and other equipment can mean the difference between a happy and an unhappy horse.
The Bridle – has the important job of holding the bit in the horse’s mouth which allows for communication and assists in directing the horse.
The Saddle – fitting for your horse as an individual is very important, saddle must also fit the rider.
The Saddle Pad – a good pad can make all the difference, the pad being long enough to provide protection from the saddlebag too.
The Stirrups – a trail stirrup will have a good foot base to give your foot plenty to rest on all day.
